Marie and I had a squirrel satsang in the rain yesterday. We were standing under a tree but all the squirrels were soggy. Anyhoo, I was saying there's no issue about being conscious if I see a beautiful tree here and you see an ugly tree, cuz these are different perspectives on the same tree and perspectives come out of our uniqueness and without those differences there would be no relating at all. All perspectives can be embraced as 'valid'. Where it becomes problematic for all involved is when I see a tree and you see a giraffe because now you're not offering a perspective on a common (level 2) observation, but instead viewing entirely from imagination. (level 3) Well said. Sadly, many people get to level 3 (imagination) and "nest" there, forgetting completely about levels 1 and 2. Hello everybody, you can move freely to levels 2 and 1, and still be able to come back to 3! It's safe & satisfying. You are all these levels (and they are all the same one being)!

Yes, level 3 seems to offer some deceiving benefits. I speculate that it begins with a desire to understand, which seems to turn into the ability to control (knowledge is power). Control implies a lot of projecting of scenarios into the future and relating to the past, so it's gets comfy to live in the future and past. Then we discover that we can make ourselves feel betterer by pretending that we don't see certain things that are happening, and that we do see some things that aren't happening. At that point we're seemingly unconsciously trapped inside our own giraffe fantasy world with no exit.

In fact, giraffe breeding is a sign of affluence and level three dedication so you'll want a whole herd. ;D

I can also speculate that it begins with self-reflection and desire for conscious control (which you mentioned). Unfortunately, most of the dream continues to be unconscious.

I've looked a great deal at how one may be assisted in becoming conscious, and it's a very tricky bizness. Basically, life itself is the only teacher.

Words are part of life. They're ephemeral though, and especially so if someone either isn't listening or is hearing them through a persistent filter.

Build a fence! Keep that contraband out and foreign giraffes on the other side where they belong!
