Marie and I had a good squirrel satsang in the park yesterday. We were talking about purpose and I was saying there is no purpose, no meaning, no plan of any kind, though of course we're free to define our own.
This idea that life was inherently meaningless disturbed her, and I said this is just mind wanting to hold onto it's illusions and beyond those illusions there is no problem, so work through it if you can. And so she took a moment by herself so that she could have a look and see what was really going on.
She saw the resistance of mind that wants to feel meaningful in it's delusion of separation, and I think she saw that there is nothing that has defined a purpose for her, and she decided that it was really okay. She could still 'make a difference' and do what she enjoyed. In fact, there is a sense of freedom in being able to define one's own purpose.
It's a good example of how we form beliefs in order to make ourselves feel better, and then start resisting when someone tries to rob us of our illusions, and yet all illusions must be seen through if we hope to see life as it actually is, and with a little courage this seeing is not difficult. It's not about making ourselves feel better, it's about Peace, which is the absence of delusion.

Calling it flat-out meaningless is a bold statement and there's a good chance of disrupting the ongoing identity poker process with that kind of statement. But is it valid? The point is that questions about meaning or purpose or identity just won't arise anymore when seeing clearly is the case. So if what's left is then called 'meaningless' or 'meaningful', who cares? ;D

The separate person now needs to find itself meaningful in a world that barely seems to acknowledge it's existence. All illusions require continual maintenance since they don't rest on anything solid.

Peace is not merely the absense of delusion, Niggy. Peace is when war stops completely, everywhere.
And that can only happen when what needs to be exposed will be exposed. And when it is exposed as what it is, it will be shunned, avoided and finally destroyed, because it was the cause of war, which is the opposite of peace.
The absense of delusion is when there is nobody there any longer who thinks and/or preaches that peace of mind of a particular individual will end war.
"If I'm not getting laid, nobody get's laid." That means: If there is one single individual in trouble, in fear, in anger, in angst, in disgust, in terror, in delusion...etc. nobody has peace of mind. And the ones who claim they have, are deluded and have cut themselfs off from the sufferers so that they don't have to take real action to end suffering in the real world.
If you enjoy peace of mind, you are considered as an enemy of real peace, Niggy. Think about it....if you can.
