Hey enig, I wasn't sure what section you would want this in.
Addition to Chapter 2
I don’t stop,
“I’m certainly not perfect, and I don’t wanna be.I get drunk and smoke weed just like anyone else. The desire arose to figure out what the hell’s going on, and now here I am.Why did I do it?For a big house, a pretty girl, a good job?Hell no. Truth is the cause, and ego’s the expense.Answers mean nothing. There are no solutions, just the dissolution of questions. It might sound scary, because it is scary. It’s fear that’s bothering you, not the absence of a fancy car in your driveway or the presence of a few less wrinkles on your face.If you’re looking to be a better person, lose a little weight, make some more money, that’s fine, but why lie to yourself? Nobody wants the truth, nobody loves the truth, and nobody is the truth, including me.”
Logic is the language of the dream. If I’m a teacher, that’s the language that I teach.Bob wants in,
“So why are you here, Jason? If no one wants truth, why even teach at all?”
“Why?I don’t know why.The last thing anyone wants is to be disturbed from their slumber. Why I’m here is irrelevant, why are you here and what is it that keeps you coming back?Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy satsang, sharing understanding, teaching and learning. If I wasn’t drawn to it, I wouldn’t be doing it.But if there wasn’t unconsciousness in the world, I wouldn’t have anyone to talk to.I’d be sitting in front of a computer high on adderall playing internet poker minding my business. But that ain’t the way it’s going down, and I’m ok with that.”
Bob seems puzzled. He continues to probe.I invite it.
“You talk about getting high. Why would an enlightened person do such things?”
I laugh.
“I dunno, because getting high is fun?I was born into a dysfunctional society run by developmentally retarded people. Human beings are fundamentally insane creatures.Collective psychological illness is a result of that and nothing more.Everyone’s on drugs these days, and who could blame them? We have a war on drugs while pharmaceutical companies launch drug campaigns.Do you find drug commercials informative, or manipulative? Why do you think that is?Everyone knows but no one says anything. This is the fucking world we live in, and I’m not ok with that. You think being enlightened means you no longer get to push back, create change, or stick your middle finger up and say fuck you, I’m not gonna take it anymore?I don’t harbor these ideas. If I wanna get high, I’m gonna get high. Now if I had a dependency or a dysfunctional relationship with recreational substances, I might take a closer look to see what the hell’s going on there.”
Bob is smiling, which makes me happy. He’s curious, and wants to hear more,
“What do you mean by a dysfunctional relationship with substances?”
“You have to see for yourself.Maintaining an environment of clarity is essential to convey the message.I’m not expressing truth, I’m exposing lies, and I’m not as good at doing that when I’m high.Smoking weed every day or drinking every night is not conducive to the life I am choosing to lead.If I was content to be a bum on the street, getting high all day may very well be an ideal lifestyle. There are no wrong behaviors, only internal conflicts and the resistance to their exposure.”
Bob asks,
“What sort of internal conflicts?”
“It’s not for me to say. It could be anything. It could be emotional issues from the people you think you love, who you think are separate, which ironically, isn’t actually the case.We aren’t denying separation, but becoming conscious of what we think about what we’re separate from.”
